Addamo Vineyards Syrah (2005)

13 Aug

OH MY GOODNESS, winos. I have some EARTH-SHATTERING NEWS: for once, Whole Foods hasn’t totally overpriced a bottle of wine!

I bought the 2005 Addamo Vineyards Syrah for $12.99 at my local Whole Foods (it retails between $18-28 bucks- WHAT?) and it (more…)

Three Saints Pinot Noir (2007)

Generally, I think that Pinot Noirs are often overrated and overpriced. Don’t get me wrong- I LOVE me some Pinot Noir, but ever since “Sideways” came out that wine has been exploited like whoa. Usually I’d rather buy a lesser-known varietal at a better price point- $15 bucks has bought me an AMAZING Monastrell, for example, but a mediocre Pinot Noir (of course I’m talking in generalities here… there are always exceptions.) For me to freak out about a Pinot Noir it’s GOT to be worth the price… and this one (more…)

Date Night at Akasha (featuring a delish Rhone Blend)

16 Jan

Well hey there, winos! Hope you’re having a great weekend. Just got back from a much-needed date night with Beau at Akasha Restaurant in Culver City (great wine list BTW) and I wanted to share with you a yummy wine I tried: The 2007 Summerland “Trio” Rhone Blend (49% Syrah, 21% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre.) It was $15/glass (bit of a splurge) and can be found between $33-$44/bottle (big splurge) but it would make a wonderful wine for a special occasion or as a gift for a lover of Rhone varietals. It’s complex, elegant, and medium bodied with a lovely long finish and notes of red fruit, cedar, and pepper.

Carr Winery Tasting

23 Nov

Happy Monday, winos!

Yesterday I went on the most wonderful little day trip to Santa Barbara with wino Katie and her hubby Drew. We stopped by Carr Winery, which is conveniently located in downtown Santa Barbara.

Have you ever seen anything more beautiful?

The wine tasting area becomes a wine bar with live music Thurs, Fri, and Sat from 5pm-12am. Pretty darn hip.

We arrived at 11:30am and the drinking began shortly after that (hey, it was 5 o’clock somewhere…) Their wine tastings happen daily from (more…)
