Three Saints Pinot Noir (2007)

Generally, I think that Pinot Noirs are often overrated and overpriced. Don’t get me wrong- I LOVE me some Pinot Noir, but ever since “Sideways” came out that wine has been exploited like whoa. Usually I’d rather buy a lesser-known varietal at a better price point- $15 bucks has bought me an AMAZING Monastrell, for example, but a mediocre Pinot Noir (of course I’m talking in generalities here… there are always exceptions.) For me to freak out about a Pinot Noir it’s GOT to be worth the price… and this one (more…)

Date Night at Akasha (featuring a delish Rhone Blend)

Well hey there, winos! Hope you’re having a great weekend. Just got back from a much-needed date night with Beau at Akasha Restaurant in Culver City (great wine list BTW) and I wanted to share with you a yummy wine I tried: The 2007 Summerland “Trio” Rhone Blend (49% Syrah, 21% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre.) It was $15/glass (bit of a splurge) and can be found between $33-$44/bottle (big splurge) but it would make a wonderful wine for a special occasion or as a gift for a lover of Rhone varietals. It’s complex, elegant, and medium bodied with a lovely long finish and notes of red fruit, cedar, and pepper.
